The latest data for the UK boxed charts is finally with us after a short delay and this week sees a number of Mario titles predictably creeping up the standings after benefitting from some pre-emptive MAR10 Day sales.
As expected, the Mario title to rise above the rest was Mario Kart 8 Deluxe which, with a boost from the release of the Booster Course Pass Wave 4, managed to glide its way onto the podium this week landing in third place. There was also a good showing outside of the top ten for Super Mario Odyssey which made its way into 13th (up from 26th) and New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe which moved into 15th.
With this week's data only counting up until 11th March, we imagine that these titles will continue to rise up the charts as the MAR10 Day sales continue.
Elsewhere, Metroid Prime Remastered continued to prove popular this time around, falling slightly from its impressive launch last week but winding up in fourth place nonetheless — even more impressive when we consider just how long the digital version of the game has been available now.
Kirby's Return to Dream Land Deluxe, on the other hand, saw enough of a drop in sales this time around for it to fall out of the top ten and into 11th place.
Here's your look at the top ten for this week's UK charts:

There were no Mar10 day sales in the UK as far as I can tell, just the usual prices
Goodness, top 5 on the charts still?? This is easily gonna be one of the bestselling Metroid games of all time. Can't wait to see the full numbers on it, especially combining digital and physical.
I will give away a house if Minecraft, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, and GTA V together leave the charts. It ain’t happening
Great game purchased digital also MK8 with the dlc tracks.
@TheBigBlue I can already see you responding like your avatar if it does end up happening and someone holds you to that lol.
Metroid Prime is £30 on Amazon Uk right now.
Yeah those sales haven't actually come into effect here in the UK/EU. I haven't got a clue why since it seems like a pretty easy and obvious thing to do but eh: here's hoping it does actually come over because I want 3D World sooner rather than later XD
No wonder there's only one 'mario' game in the top 10, there was no discounts in the UK. I have no idea what the article is talking about.
Hope this has the legs to reach 3 million. Seems about the Max for Metroid, Bayonetta and Xenoblade lol.
Where can I find the Top 40?
Yeah Nintendo went all out with the Mario discounts in the uk for mar10 day… not
yknow its just now setting in how odd it is that gta v and mw2 are selling so well despite their age rating making them pretty niche (especially gta)
Cool seeing Hogwarts still doing so well, considering all the HP games from the last 20 years not doing nearly so hot.
seeing Animal Crossing New Horizons back in the top ten makes me sad this could have had more updates to keep it and the Animal Crossing fans base going yet Nintendo doesn't even give it a full two years of their attention
Deservedly so. It is one of the best remastered releases I have experienced in quite some time. Love the remastered concept art stuff as well. Hopefully strong sales will encourage Nintendo to remaster Metroid Prime 2 as well instead of just releasing the game as is for players to enjoy.
Oh that's a very good week. I wonder if it can be the Metroid game to finally top 3 mil.
@novasoup Age ratings mean jack. COD and GTA is full of kids playing them.
Ugh the fact GTA never stops selling is what ruined Rockstar...greed over art, cool to see a harry potter game on top, never thought that would happen, loved Ragnarok glad its still selling and being experienced, and ugh mario kart 8... doesn't everyone own it yet? Its placement on the charts for the entirety of the switch guarantees we'll never see mario kart 9 on the current Switch...those added tracks say so, cod needs more updates, sucks we wont have it for 2 years like previously promised since a new one will be out later this year, and yay for Metroid Prime, hopefully they'll release the whole trilogy
Metroid Prime Remastered is a great game, its in fact my first ever Metroid game even though I've been gaming with nintendo for over 20 years now. For me it's just like traditional zelda games but in space, hopefully they can remaster the other two prime games before number 4 comes out.
I’m glad the sales are good for Metroid, surely these releases are just Nintendo building momentum for prime 4. Maybe it’s more or less ready now but they want to use these games to boost sales of that, especially with the amount of time they have spent on it.
@step_over Surely because it was 10Mar if anything.
Exciting times for Metroid fans. I'm hoping Metroid reclaims it's long lost status in the Nintendo top series alongside Mario and Zelda.
@pspooky Unfortunately Metroid never had this status and will probably never have.
@Bigmanfan Metroid Dread definitely already did. It was 2.9 million a full year ago.
@novasoup GTA V is the second best selling game ever behind Minecraft and Call of Duty is the third best selling game franchise ever behind Mario and Pokémon. Nothing niche about them.
@BTB20 I think GTA V, Mario Kart 8 deluxe and Minecraft surprise me given how long everyone has had to buy them. Especially GTA V given its more limited appeal.
I'm not the biggest Metroid fan in the world, but I'm damn glad to see how well it has done recently. It's always so disappointing when Nintendo IPs make these big comebacks and then do poorly (like Star Fox - which has been placed firmly back on the shelf since the Wii U debacle).
@Wheatly Meanwhile, we're lucky to even find a copy at msrp over in the US.
Metroid deserves to be played by many people
Hope it does sell well. But even 3 mil for a console with 120 mil on the market it doesn't seem amazing.
Finally was able to find one at a local Walmart here in the US
I genuinely wonder, do people in the UK go to supermarkets to pickup their weekly copies of GTA V and MK8 alongside eggs, milk and flour? How do these games never drop off?
Nintendo Switch Sports made its way! Anyone here playing it?
Metroid (as a franchise) should be on an steady 5M with every release, we are not far from there but we are not near either, bummer that the series will be locked to the 3M max, since this is my favorite franchise of all time 🙁
@Axecon buying from online retailers count towards physical sales, so a lot of people buy games off amazon and shopto which also do pre order bonuses etc. But some supermarkets (mainly Tesco) do in store deals that people flock to, a couple of months ago God of War Ragnarok was £25 in Tesco for PS5.
@Bigmanfan If Prime Remastered can’t take the crown then it’ll be the mythical Prime 4. Metroid has never been a mega hit but this is definitely its moment. Dread really set up the revival and the Prime Remaster(s?) is knocking it out the Park.
Love to see Metroid Prime (and Metroid in general with Dread first and now even Fusion) do so well on Switch!
Hope they'll remaster the other Prime games at some point and that Zero Mission comes to Switch Online, too!
