Original Article [Thu 2nd Mar, 2023 15:00 GMT]: We are nearing the calendar event of the year, Mario Day, on 10th March (MAR10, get it?), and Nintendo has today started laying the groundwork for a celebratory sale.
The discount event is going to be split into two different 'waves', with the first section running from 10th - 23rd March and presenting discounts on titles such as Mario Party Superstars, Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, Yoshi’s Crafted World, and Luigi’s Mansion 3.
Wave two will then kick in from 24th March until 7th April, with savings to be had on Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Super Mario Odyssey, New Super Mario Bros. U Deluxe, Super Mario Maker 2, and Super Mario 3D World + Bowser’s Fury.
This eShop sale has only been confirmed for North America at the moment, though we would be surprised if it didn't make the jump to the global market soon.
It looks like each of these titles will be dropping to $39.99 for the sale period, which scores a nice $20 discount. If the same is to apply in Europe then we can expect the games to be going for around the £30 / $40 mark.
Speaking of waiting and seeing, Nintendo has also announced that a 'Mario & Friends' retail sale will also be taking place with select companies from 5th - 11th March, though we don't know which stores are getting involved just yet. There'll be $40 off Mario Kart Live: Home Circuit in this instance alongside many of the above titles, so keep your eyes peeled for further updates soon.
Will you be snapping up any of the titles in the Mario Day sales? Let us know what you've got your eye on in the comments below.

Was hoping Mario Strikers would be part of it, since I've been kind of curious about it but not $60 curious. Otherwise pretty much own all of these... even if in the case of Crafted World I wish I didn't.
I really need to halt the digital purchases, so if I were to pick something up, chances are it would have to be during the retail sale.
I was hoping for Strikers myself. Of that list, the only one I don't have is Yoshi's Crafted World.
"The actual price that each of these titles will be dropping to is also yet to be revealed. It looks like some of the bigger games will be on sale for $39.99."
This comment has me scratching my head. The ad lists all the games and says they're each $39.99. What exactly are the titles we don't know the price of?
I wish the physical sale was also spread out. Still, I'm hoping to pick up Super Mario Maker 2 and Mario Party Superstars.
@Lizuka have you checked out the demo?
@ElRoberico I wasn't actually aware it had one.
i literally own all of these. talk about dissapointing
Curious to see them adding the DK and Yoshi games to the group.
@HeyNavComm crafted world is amazing, on the easy side but the art style and controls are a master class in gaming.
@Lizuka it's definitely enough to satisfy your curiosity.
Pretty much more of the same stuff from nintendo i assume.
Mario 35 is temporarily restored for 2 weeks!? yeah, never gonna happen we know.
Smbu deluxe was such a vanilla title for me, no charm and a breeze with short levels. Cant believe it costs as much as some of these other ones
The only titles I don't have are Crafted World, Mario Party, and Super Mario Bro's U. The question is which to pick up.
@T-Rexy If you like party games then absolutely Mario Party, Superstars is arguably one of the best games in the series, plus it has online play with friend or even randoms!
Gonna finally pick up Tropical Freeze on Switch. Have it on Wii U but I have to admit that I'm just never going to beat it there
Boy I’d love to have Tropical Freeze again but after owning the original don’t even want to pay 40$ for funky long
Wow, Tropical Freeze is still 2x the price of the Wii U version.
Nintendo is so greedy with them not bringing back Players Choice. So greedy.
What is that game with just Bowser's face as the image, below Mario Maker 2?
@calbeau I think they just needed a filler image so that the layout was symmetrical. I don’t think that’s a game.
@calbeau it's the exact image of Bowser used on the eshop credit cards. Think like Henshin said above, they just wanted to to be symmetrical. And we couldn't have Mario day without the big bad Bowser, he's the yang to Mario's ying.
Great sale, but I own all of these already.
Hopefully it will come to Europe too, even if i own all of these games. Sad note is that Paper Mario is not there: a wonderful game that deserves more attenction
Nintendo seems to be so out of touch with their customers these days. These are not sales. Back during the DS/3DS/wii/u era they used to re release their games in “best of” budget releases with a lower price. We are coming out of a pandemic and SO many people are tight on money right now. $40 is not a sale for these super old games. Some of them, sure. But many of those should be $40 regular price and $20 on sale. Nintendo needs to understand this.
lol what deals!
@cammers1995 Completely second this. Insane that these are still retailing at $59.99. Should be $29.99 on sale at the highest.
Nintendo is so out of touch with their customers it’s not even funny. People these days have no money because of inflation and high souring rents and low wages. We just came out of a pandemic too. Yet these old crusty switch games are still being sold for full retail value. Why don’t we have a platinum or budget line anymore? This is sad. Most of these games should be $40 regular price and $20 on sale. $60 regular price and $40 on sale is a joke and why so many haven’t played these switch exclusives yet because they’re hilariously overpriced. Sorry not sorry. Yet, look at PlayStation and Xbox sales that they do and notice the major difference. Starting to question if i should abandon the Nintendo ship.
Are they not running it in EU? I was planning to pick up 3D World from this but if it's not on then I might be a bit stuck XD
Maybe it's time to pick up that Luigi's Masnsion 3 expansion pack for multiplayer. Anyone have thoughts on it?
Gee, I sure love getting a discount on literally Bowser himself.
Got them all. Great games to play
I can't believe this isn't coming to Europe
Cool sale! But me and my brother already have all of them
@LavaTwilight is it definitely not coming to Europe, or have we just not heard anything yet? It definitely seems to be quite late in the day if it does actually happen over here!
@BowsersBuddy no idea, but like you said, no update yet and it's already 9pm where I am, later if you're in mainland Europe... so I'm guessing it's a no.
@LavaTwilight yeah same, it’s very weird! Surprised we only got the one option with the MAR10 console bundle too. It was good for me, but I can see others being disappointed being as the ‘choose your game’ option was advertised first. Ah well! Some stores seem to have good prices on some of the physical games at least.
I love how they didn't have an additional game in the image with the games on sale to center the image, so they were just like "B O W S E R" and then called it good.
I’m suddenly reminded when Nintendo did its million seller program here in the US for the N64. Mario Kart 64, Star Wars, and others dropped to $40. As much as I dismiss the 33% off discount nowadays, I’m just mindful now that, when I was a kid who earned allowance, it made ALL the difference.
Just grabbed Mario Maker 2 on discount! Woo!
Nintendo, I will buy a handful of these as soon as you put them on an actual pre-owned price like 19.99. Because that's what old games on digital format is, just what we used to buy as pre-owned games.
@RemembersGems I very rarely see a Nintendo game go for that price even as a pre-owned price. They're just far too sought-after.
Holding out hope for Europe as we've tended to get sales just - a couple weeks apart. I mean, sure, the push news that we should "get ready for MAR1O day" by buying full price would be kind of an evil move in that case, but... I'll accept it. )
@sketchturner "Maybe it's time to pick up that Luigi’s Mansion 3: Multiplayer Pack. Anyone have thoughts on it?"
I have read that it's not very good, but I could be tempted if there are others that enjoyed it?
Whatever happened to Player's Choice or Nintendo Selects?
the 1 mainline mario platform game that was not included in the sale this week was super mario party for some reason..
