Get ready folks, the next wave of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe DLC is on the way and will be bringing eight new courses plus a new driver in the shape of Birdo to the Switch on 9th March — that's next week!
These additions will be available for free to all those with the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pass membership, where you can also access Waves one to three. Alternatively, you can buy all of the additional courses in one neat little bundle.
The February Nintendo Direct Showcase revealed Birdo's appearance this time around the addition of the Yoshi's Island circuit, but the remaining seven courses were left undisclosed. Until now! The latest wave will also include Singapore Speedway, Bangkok Rush and Amsterdam Drift from Mario Kart Tour, DK Summit from Mario Kart Wii, Riverside Park from Mario Kart Super Circuit, Mario Circuit from Mario Kart DS and Waluigi Stadium from Mario Kart Double Dash!!
We also now know that the upcoming racer, Birdo, will be a medium weight class, so you can start strategising your kart build accordingly.
You can check out all of Wave 4's newbies in the above video.
With only two waves still to come, which remaining tracks would you like to see added to the game? Let us know in the comments.

Sigh. I really, REALLY would rather Wario Coliseum from DD! It was epic
Wave 4 is the best wave by default now, sorry I don't make the rules.

A great selection of courses this time round, even if they're really laying it on thick with the Tour representation compared to previous waves (not that I'm complaining of course 😉). Can't wait to re-experience DK Snowboard Cross and Waluigi's Stadium come next week!
Also on the topic, WE FINALLY GOT A DOUBLE DASH TRACK HALFWAY THROUGH THIS THING XD
"Yahoo!"
-Toad
Cup of three Tour tracks is probably going to be a pretty weak one. Are a couple of the Tour tracks I like but most of them I just don't like how cluttered they are and how many false turns they have, they just don't feel right compared to the other tracks.
Looks great, I just would’ve rather have had Airship Fortress than DS’ Mario Circuit. I hope that and Sunset Wilds from GBA still come eventually. At least there’s finally a Double Dash track. I don’t mind more Tour tracks since I barely played Tour and they’ll mostly feel like new to me, and their music tracks are so good.
Amsterdam drift! I was hoping it would be added to MK8.
Being Dutch myself, I'm very happy.
Oh that's much sooner than expected. Awesome, glad I was proven wrong then! Can't wait to try the Yoshi's Island track! <3
I can finally play as my queen. ❤️ 💜 ❤️
I'm really disappointed by the lack of SNES representation in these waves so far Still no versions of Choco Island, Koopa Beach, Ghost Valley, Vanilla Lake or Bowser Castle...
I do enjoy Bangkok Rush, and the Amsterdam/Singapore ones look nice...but that's a lot of Tour tracks. Especially when you're throwing in a random DS one I hardly remember. There are better courses out there but it's a decent mix.
But have I already paid for it? Yes
Will I play it on release day? Of course!
...So I'll shut up
It is time! We got so many good tracks! DK summit, Waluigi stadium, and we are going to get more characters aside from Birdo in the future! I am so beyond ready to race with 11 other players using only Waluigi on Waluigi stadium
@Jmjfrank I'm still sad that N64 Wario Stadium is neglected and the only track that hasn't appeared in any current Mario Kart game.
quite happy about Singapore and Bangkok! but overall it feels like a relatively weak wave compared to the others.
@Clyde_Radcliffe A lot of those tracks aren’t very unique and are quite flat and hard to work with. Some stages for the GBA which that Mario kart entry functioned as a portable Super Mario Kart, has to have some stages fully redone just to add them to Mario Kart 8. Boo lake, Cheese Land, and Ribbon Road are examples of drastic changes from the original tracks.
Looking forward to the new Yoshi island course, and Birdo is nice, but otherwise its the weakest pass so far for me.
DK Summit and Waluigi Stadium??? Let’s go!
Based on that trailer we can assume we'll be getting more new characters in the future which is great news.
Awesome cannot wait for this wave! I initially thought the DK stage we were getting was mountain with the giant volcano, but it’s the other equally good downward slope level. I do still hope mountains in the cards tho.
Another Mario Kart Party at my flat coming up!
Okay, so I have many thoughts:
1. They're continuing the trend where each wave looks visually more impressive than the last. Riverside Park has ACTUAL textures on the grass and rocks! Yay!
2. It's launching in just a week, which is sooner than I anticipated! I thought these would be coming towards the end of the month! Yay!
3. I'm so freakin' stoked about new characters! I've wanted that since the first wave! Yay!
4. Bangkok and Singapore look like they might be the most interesting city tracks yet! I was worried they'd all feel boring and the same, but that isn't the case, so... Yay!
5. This isn't the most exciting lineup of retro tracks. Not yay. If the datamines are to be believed, this may very well be our last DS track, and they went with... Mario Circuit? So, no Luigi's Mansion or Airship Fortress? That's legitimately devastating. They could've at least chose the Mario Circuit from 7, where you actually race inside Peach's castle. That was a good one.
6. The underwhelming selection here really just reinforces my desire to see a second Booster Course Pass that adds ANOTHER 48 tracks. Remember when they announced Terry for Smash, and everyone was like, "Oh..." But then Nintendo was like, "Don't worry, we're doing a second Fighter's Pass!" And we were all like, "Yay!" Yeah. I want them to repeat that. Bring back some extra battle maps while you're at it, please.
Afslag Amsterdam (Dutch translation) and Yoshi's Island are my most wanted tracks!
Just 100% finished Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island last week, something which I couldn't as a kid really looky forward to drive slow discovering evertyhing.
Fans: Arguing over whether the DS course will be Airship Fortress or Delfino Square.
Nintendo: 4 Mario circuits in one game isn’t too many, right?
Tour tracks are really starting to just feel like reskins of each other...They're not BAD, they're just...present and accounted for.
Not as good as wave 3 (too much Tour city tracks this time and DS Mario Circuit was an odd choice) but I'm still super excited for GBA Riverside Park, GCN Waluigi Stadium, Wii DK's Snowboard Cross and Yoshi's Island.
Fruit Cup:
Amsterdam Drift
Riverside Park
DK Summit
Yoshi's Island
has potential to be the best ever cup in Mario Kart. Nep-Enut, hooray!
Boomerang Cup looks very weak.
Still no Koopa Cape from MK Wii. Starting to get nervous haha.
Wow this wave looks solid!! But as others have said... there are too many tour tracks and there's literally no need for another Mario circuit. However the new Yoshi's island one along with DK summit and Waluigi stadium defo makes up for it.
01:21 - Characters from past Mario Kart games are on the way!
So more characters are coming via the next few waves, that's great news. That means Funky Kong, Diddy Kong, Petey Piranha, Dixie Kong, Nabbit, King Bob-Omb, Pauline, Kamek, and/or Shuyguy still had a chance after all. It's too bad it's just characters from past MK games and not new characters so Mallow, Geno, K. Rool, Wart, Triclyde, Mouser, Clawgrip, Tatanga, Boom Boom, Belome, the Axem Rangers, Smithy, the Origami King, Banjo-Kazooie, Conker, Krash the Kremlin, Tom Nook, Zelda, Hilda, Ganondorf, Marin, Midna, Kirby, Saria, Agahnim, Ghirahim, Vaati, Skull Kid, King Dedede, Meta Knight, Cackletta, Fawful, Cappy (Odyssey Cap), Ezlo (Minish Cap), etc., won't be part of it.
Amsterdam <3, racing through my home town, dream coming true..
Good News: I haven't played 4 of these
Bad News: 3 of them are from Tour
And DK Summit just seems like a worse version of Mount Wario.
Still... more MK8 tracks are always welcome.
Three tour tracks really drags this down to be honest. Still, the Yoshi's Island course looks glorious.
Every time I see these I have to remember they don't work on my Wii U copy of the game. Looking forward to the complete version on Switch 2 though.👍
I still haven't played the last wave, just forgot about it. But will be happy to play a 16 track tournament of all fresh tracks next week!
Happy to see a Double Dash course, my favorite MK. Is it too much to ask for both Daisy Cruiser and Dino Dino Jungle in the last waves instead of Tour ones? That will be the perfect ending for an amazing game
Just wanna thank Nintendo for releasing waves 3 & 4 either during or just before a week off work! 😂 saying that, with 3 “tour” tracks my expectations are somewhat lower for wave 4. We’ll see.
@Munchlax haha, true, I really wanted Delfino Square (...and Airship fortress )
Thinking about it, even Mario Kart Wii had too many Mario Circuit (and there were "only" 32 tracks!)
@Serpenterror That's a ridiculous list but I just want to say don't entirely count out new characters. We thought this DLC was just going to be old tracks but Yoshi's Island is brand new. Just because they say it will include characters from past titles, they're not explicitly stating there couldn't also be new ones (though there likely won't be, I'm just saying they didn't say that exactly)
Three Tour tracks in one wave of eight tracks. Nintendo may as well be calling this the "MK Tour Pass" at this point; now you know why they included Birdo and the Yoshi's Island track to try to distract from that fact. Thus far, with the exception of Ninja Hideaway, the Tour Tracks are universally the weakest from a design standpoint, and having so many at once is really going to drag this wave down.
@Sirvant7 That is a big money track that has lots of recognition. I see it being added in wave 6, if at all. There have been lots of Wii tracks so far, which makes me smile, even as a non Mario Kart Wii owner. They may skip a Wii course next wave, and come back with Koopa cape. All the best wii tracks are now in the game, from Mushroom Gorge to DK Summit.
Looks good to me. The Yoshi's Island and Singapore Speedway tracks look great. I'm also excited to replay Riverside Park, Waluigi Stadium, and DK Summit.
Seems like a good pack to me.
@Scapetti I get that but I still list the new characters just in case they forget.
Very excited about DK Summit….
DK Summit was always a fun course, but I'm looking forward to an entirely new Yoshi's Island course the most
DK Summit and Waluigi Stadium all the way. I'm willing to see the other courses too.
I've enjoyed all the new courses.
RIP Airship Fortress fans, but DK Summit and Waluigi Stadium tho👀
I got SO excited when I saw DK Summit. That is a track I have been waiting for to be added to another Mario Kart game. And I'm glad they kept the halfpipe.
Also, Riverside Park looks gorgeous. I'm glad they brought back that track.
Dino Dino, wherefore art thou?
Really hoping we get Koopa Cape and Toad's Factory.
If the datamine is to be believed (and it's been pretty spot on so far) we wont' get any more DS courses, so Airship Fortress is out. Sad face.
Sometimes I think Mario kart 8 Deluxe is the best Switch game not Mario 3D, Skyward sword HD or Breath of the wild. Wait Pokemon Arcues was very good to.
I am so happy to finally see a Double Dash track! Waluigi Stadium is a great pick.
Also, I love the glow-up Riverside Park received.
Some sites are reporting that DS Mario Circuit has a path through Peach's Castle, seemingly pulling directly from an official press release. I wonder if they're confusing it with 3DS Mario Circuit, or if they actually added a new route
So much sooner than I expected, love to see it!
The only "stinker" is DS Mario Circuit (although luckily only in comparison and they could have added a new route like Peach Gardens as speculated and potentially confirmed by what @PikaPhantom mentioned).
Other than that, good to see even more Tour city tracks and especially the non-city one since it's Yoshi's Island to avoid losing them when eventually that game unfortunately shuts down, Waluigi Stadium as the first Double Dash track in the pass, DK Summit is just great and I love the remakes of GBA courses, Riverside Park absolutely included!
Awesome news.
I'm looking forward to trying out these new courses with the wife and kids. Speaking of the wife, she is super excited to play as Birdo.
God, hopefully it means 2 more packs to come before some news of a new MK....
Personally I'm fine with getting as many Tour tracks as possible since those are brand new to me, and it's my chance to play them as I refuse to play Tour itself. I think it's cool how each lap has a different layout, and the city tracks added in this wave seem pretty fun.
The rest of the retro tracks are nice, with the exception of DS Mario Circuit. At this point in the game's life I don't want to see more generic circuit tracks, so that's disappointing, but the rest looks nice.
Overall, this seems like a nice wave, and I'm looking forward to Yoshi's Island the most. Having Birdo back is great too, even though I probably won't use her a lot, I love that we're getting new characters in the game.
@PikaPhantom I mean, Peach Gardens had that wild twist where you DRIVE IN REVERSE for the final lap, so if that’s the case, that would definitely soften the blow for Airship Fortress’s absence
It seems they're porting over basically all the greats from the Wii era, I wouldn't be surprised to see koopa cape, toad's factory, or rainbow road make their debut.
Of all the fun tracks from ds to pick, why Mario circuit? Luigi's Mansion, Yoshi Falls, Airship Fortess , delfino square would be much more unique and memorable additions.
Please let us see more Double Dash. Daisy Cruiser, Dino Dino Jungle and others. I wish we would see Mushroom city, but at this point with the tour tracks, it would be just another city track.
I'm surprised there hasn't been another Bowser's castle. Seems like a shoe in, especially since we got another rainbow road
Okay, this is actually a great lineup. If I cared about the Booster Course Pack, I'd be stoked with this lineup. Riverside Park and Bangkok Rush are the two courses I'd have most wanted to see make the jump from Tour and their both coming in Tour, Yoshi's Island looked really good in the Direct, and Waluigi's Stadium looks very well improved.
For me N64 Bowser's Castle will be worth the price of admission alone if it happens. C'mon, Nintendo, make it so!
I just want some more Luigi representation. Like hitting my friends in first place when I'm in last on Luigi's Circuit from Double Dash.
RIP any chance of seeing Wuhu Loop or Maka Wuhu from 3DS.
Can we get some likes for R.O.B.? I wanna see him ride a bike (Lol)
Watch them throw in figure 8 circuit from DS. Now we have the three most bland courses from DS in our paid DLC. Yahoo
Not to get too far ahead of Wave 4's release, but it's gonna be exciting to see how they bring it home with the last two Waves.
Between the new courses, added characters, and QoL functions, it's a wonder what else we're gonna get when all's said and done.
@Clyde_Radcliffe This. Bowser Castle & Ghost Valley 1 has to be the two most raced tracks on my SNES.
And as much as I loathed racing on Koopa Beach, the track song was so chill I could never truly rage at it. Wanna see that just for the updated music.
I’m a ready, it’s a me Mario
Good selection of tracks. I'm glad they chose to add Riverside park, that track looks so good remade in 3D and HD. Waluigi Stadium is a nice addition too. And yeah, the new Yoshi's Island looks great as well.
@ClydeRadcliffe There's only one more SNES track, slated for Wave 5. My guess is that it's a Bowser's Castle, though. People have deciphered upcoming content for Tour through the way that game handles track IDs, so it's all but confirmed at least one SNES Bowser's Castle is coming to that game (unless they throw the curveball of Yoshi Valley 2 at us, but since the SNES gap has grown concurrently with one for GBA Bowser's Castle 4, it's probably a SNES Bowser's Castle). It'd fit a retro Bowser's Castle niche 8 Deluxe still has yet to fill, and it's the theme that would feel least out of place in 8 Deluxe with the Tour SNES remakes being fairly flat.
I've long felt that many Mario Kart tracks lack a sense of place, that they're not closely affiliated enough with actual Mario games, like Rainbow Road or Music Park.
With that being said, I second the interest in bringing back:
Bowser's Castle (any)
Luigi's Mansion
Delfino Square
Airship Fortress
But some tracks are just really interesting, so I'd also welcome:
Wario Stadium or Colosseum
Daisy Cruiser
Peach Beach
Toad's Factory
This new version of GCN Waluigi Stadium is giving me some serious vibes of Stadium Arena and the Waluigi Stadium from Mario Kart Arcade GP 2.
It's nice to finally have Gamecube tracks, though. Hopefully we can have GCN Bowser's Castle or GCN Mushroom City.
I’m perfectly OK with some Tour tracks being added unlike other people here. To most people they might as well be “new” tracks and some of these tour tracks are genuinely good. It sucks when we get more Mario circuits though over literally anything else.
Personally, not impressed.
Impressed by some of them and not so much the others. DK Summit is awesome I’ll at least say.
Good to know that they're not stopping with Birdo.
Some of the Tour tracks have been surprisingly good. Just wish they were more aesthetically different. Excited for next week. Pizza and family game night UNLOCKED!
Weak wave.
Please Nintendo, BATTLE COURSES waves...
100% of my time playing Mario Kart is playing Battle modes. I feel Mario Kart 8 races boring after 100´s races.
But, the Battle modes are just perfect! I could play it forever.
@Sarkos the Tour tracks are kinda generic tho. Yeah, the scenery is different, but I don’t see them as that entertaining. I would rather see some better ports or new content…,
most hyped for yoshis island and bangkok
@PikaPhantom I think a SNES Vanilla Lake is practically confirmed due to billboards in Wii Coconut Mall.
I'm happy we're finally getting something from Double Dash, although I'd like a track from the special cup.
@Grumblevolcano Ah, yes, just like how we had Birdo on advertisements in N64 Royal Raceway for almost 10 years before she got added
I don't think those mean anything, and if that track released in a later wave they would've scrubbed out the references to Vanilla Lake and Dino Dino Jungle. Snow Land and Vanilla Lake overlap very strongly as well
@sanderev same
@PikaPhantom With the way track IDs work, it can't be Yoshi Valley 2. With Kalimari Desert, Kalimari Desert 2 is in-between the regular Kalimari Desert IDs since KalimariDesert2 is alphabetically sorted between KalimariDesert and KalimariDesertR. Additionally, the latest Tour's update to the IDs heavily implies an upcoming Tour will heavily feature Bowser tracks, with this course being one of them (along with probably GBA Bowser's Castle 4). Edit: Didn't realize you mentioned the GBA BC4 part lol my bad
@Polley001 It's fine, haha! I didn't actually realize that's how they handled Kalimari Desert 2
@rjejr Yeah, don't worry, they'll resell it on 20 different new hardware platforms in the future.
@Juanblue85 my thoughts exactly!
Dangit, I've been so busy with other games I've forgot to even try wave 3! I need to dedicate some MK8D time...
I grew tire of the vehicle selection, now that they are adding characters, hope they add some more karts
@tseliot For the record I'm ok w/ ports, remakes, remasters, whatever, but even Squenix is making us wait less between mainline numbered FF games 15-16 than Nintendo is w/ MK games, and Squenix even finally got FF7R out in between those 2. So yeah, port MK8 to every game console under the sun, people will buy it so why not, money in the bank, but waiting 10 years for a new kart racing game that historically has a new entry every 3-5 years is a bit much. Same for Pikmin 4 releasing 10 years and 8 days after Pikmin 3. (yeah I checked 😝)
6 years for the Zelda DLC made into a sequel game isn't helping, their entirely new entries don't usually take that long. And where's a new 3D Mario? 😩
Another Mario Circuit? Just... Why...??? At least we got DK Summit and Waluigi Stadium
So weak! Just two interesting tracks! History has so many great MK tracks and they go the easy way and port Tour tracks! That’s not ok! Plus nobody asks for new items! New weapons could make the game so much more exciting! Why don’t they make more new levels from other video games since we have Hyrule Castle! How about a Metroid Rush, or a lot of air battles which could be in a Star Fox level- Corneria Assault! Or bring interplanetary travel like from Jet Force Gemini! Or a track from Super Mario Galaxy where you could travel on spheres with shifting gravity! Instead we get cheap ports of uncreating mobile tracks!
@MrGam3andBu1ld I won't mention datamines and speculation based on them, but please do tell me if you're interested!
Koopa Cape and Rainbow Road are already in Tour so they could come in Wave 5 and/or 6!
Yeah, Mario Circuit would've been a fine pick had Luigi's Mansion and/or Airship Fortess, both already in Tour, had already been added to 8 Deluxe, but they haven't been so...
Daisy Cruiser, Dino Dino Jungle and also DK Mountain are already in Tour so fingers crossed we'll get most if not all of them!
The Bowser's Castle from Tour are GBA 1, 2, 3 and the 3DS one, personally hope we'll get at least the latter.
@JohnnyMind
Thanks for that. I've been keeping tight speculation on the tour side of things. The hope would be we get all those tracks but we'll see. Some tracks got confirmed for DLC before they got formally added to Tour
One other hope I have after good characters, if Nintendo decides to do more Mario Kart content, I would love to see the retro Karts make a comeback as they have in Tour. Wild Wing, Sprinter, Egg 1, Turbo Yoshi, and many others would be fun to use again
@MrGam3andBu1ld Yep, this very wave has some courses that had only been datamined in Tour and/or 8 Deluxe.
I'm happy we're finally getting some characters but yeah, if they really want to go the extra mile some retro karts would be nice, too!
Birdo missing from Mario Kart 8 was always my one major Gripe.
I might seriously have to get in on the Switch version now. :x
@sanderev I'm happy for you too, Amsterdam is a great city. I'm Polish and I wish there was a Polish track in Mario Kart Tour. 😀
@rjejr meanwhile all of us will be enjoying the Deluxe edition with all current maps 🤷♂️ to each their own
@PeteyPiranha Well if you're Petey Piranha then you probably get the friends and family discount. 😂
I already have enjoyed almost all of these tracks like 10-20 years ago, except the Tour tracks which I could play for free if I wanted too, so what exactly am I missing? 🤷
If Nintendo wants to release MK9 day 1 on Switch I'd be fine never replaying these but I'm guessing a port so I'll pick it up for the family while we continue to wait for new tracks in 9.
Mario Kart DD is still my all-time favorite MK Game, so please bring back:
Wario Coliseum & Bowser's Castle from MKDD (And maybe Peach Beach & Rainbow Road too!!)
That being said, I have got MK8 with my Pass Ready to go on the 9th!!
Dam... just realised how much I have paid for MK8 already!! Bring on MK9! (Nintendo are great at fleecing fanboys like me multiple times for the same thing!)
