November Favorites

I’ve been taking a big interest in art in general lately (if you couldn’t already tell). So I sketched and colored some of my favorite things from November. We’re in the middle of December already, but it’s something I wanted to share!

1. Glossier Body Hero Oil Wash. Even though I wrote about it in the last post, I’ve been using it throughout the end of November up until now. It smells nice and doesn’t make my skin feel dry at all. Leaves me smelling kind of like roses and kind of like a chlorinated swimming pool, though.

2. Kiehls Calendula and Aloe Hydrating Masque. I’ve been using it nonstop since I got it from the VIB sale and it’s one of my favorite purchases. It smells like a sweet, herbal tea and I’d very much like to spread it on my toast for breakfast.

3. Glossier Rose Balm Dot Com. Glossier makes my favorite lip balms because they’re price-friendly and they just work. The rose one smells of roses (duh), which is one of my favorite scents. If you have Milky Jelly Cleanser, that’s exactly how it smells like! (Never mind that I already own a Birthday and Original Balm Dotcom.)

4. Copic Markers. I colored this sketch in with these! They give such a nice wash of color without any weird overlapping, as long as I work somewhat fast with them.

5. Coffee! I’ve been drinking coffee every morning with just a little spoonful of sugar and a lot of milk. How do you like your coffee?

6. Pink Glossier Bags. They’re so perfect to travel with, and they come with every Glossier purchase! I packed my everyday makeup in one, all my Copic markers in another, my painting supplies in yet another one, and I have a spare for the little odds and ends that don’t really belong anywhere.

7. Rhodia Rhodiarama Dot Grid Notebook. I’m using it as a bullet journal right now. It’s a bit on the pricey end for a notebook, but I love it. It lays flat, and has a dot grid that isn’t too noticeable at a glance, but at the same time is noticeable enough to easily see them (lol). I think yellow is my new favorite color.

8. NARS Soft Matte Complete Concealer. I love this so darn much! It’s replaced my HG Radiant Creamy Concealer, which I’ve been using for the past 4 or 5 years. Oh yeah, there’s no #8 in the photo because I forgot to add it.

On an unrelated note: Lately I’ve been toying with the idea of having just… shorter posts? Something not as heavily curated/edited/worked as hard on? It seems like almost a funny thing to say, especially since having a blog nowadays takes hard work. But I kind of miss doing more intimate posts that I can write up in 10 or 15 minutes. So don’t mind if I’ll pop in with something like this every so often. Hopefully it’s still enough content to spark a conversation in the comments!

Also someone please get me a nice white desk the faux wood looks fugly in photos

What are some of your favorite things lately?

  • Omg the sketch is amazing! I have zero art skills so… anything pretty is like genius to me hahaha. Love the colours you used too! Hmm that said, I’ve been brush lettering and I really appreciate good paper that isn’t too absorbent for the ink, lol. I drink my coffee black!

    Cherie ✿

    • oooh, do share your brush lettering someday! i love black coffee too, though i’m kind of a wimp so i like it most with sweet pastries, preferably donuts or cake. thank you hehe <3

  • I drink my coffee with Hazelnut creamer but no sugar as the creamer is sweet enough. I say go for it with the shorter and more intimate posts, I love reading your blog regardless what you post anyways. xx

    Shireen⎜Reflection of Sanity

    • oooh, i used to love the hazelnut coffee from starbucks! you’re so sweet, thank you <3 sometimes I just get so tired of having to endlessly edit my writing and I hope that the shorter posts here and there can give me a bit of a break.

  • your art reminds me so much of what frannerd would do! it’s so adorable ♥ i wish i’m good at drawing too so i can draw my fave products and whatnot. then again i can use my wacom tablet — it’s just that i’m lazy lol

the glossier rose balm sounds so fancy! then again, anything rose sounds fancy. i’m most curious about their coconut version though because despite not looking the fruit, i love coconut scented stuff.

i don’t drink coffee anymore but i drink my tea raw or with non-fat milk and sweetener or vanilla syrup. probably not the healthiest but i’m trying to brew a copy of starbucks black tea latte in my kitchen xD

aaah, the nars soft matte concealer!! i want to try it to bad! i heard that it covers dark circles but still keep things natural. i just thought it’s a great one for those simple, carefree no-makeup makeup days where you want to cover the sins on your face but don’t wanna look like you’re wearing God’s sprinkle of harmony.

some of my favorite things are the ordinary’s azelaic acid suspension, cosrx low ph good morning cleanser, hada labo’s gokujyun moisturizing lotion and lippie products i bought from a local brand – which i’ll talk about later, probably at the end of this month 😛

    • gosh darn it I wanted to have my own kind of style LOL but hey, I guess that’s what happens when we’re heavily influenced by another artist/just starting out – I hope someday that my art will be as unique as fran’s and having my own signature style as well! i think drawing products is much easier than drawing animals and humans, haha. though i think not as rewarding imo :p

i actually loveeeee coconut scents and the fruit – for some reason i didn’t think of it as a fruit, though i’m sure it is? i’m a lover of all fats, i love my coffee and milk tea with whole milk and half and half.

HAHAHA I love how you call it god’s sprinkle of harmony – it’s nicer to work with than the radiant creamy for sure, plus you can get alllll the product out. i can’t wait to read about those products from you!!

  • What a creative way to do an empties! Love this as an idea –
The Glossier Oil sounds amazing, I still haven’t managed to convince myself to order yet, but that might be going on the shortlist!
I keep hearing amazing things about the NARS concealer – and seeing it people’s yearly favourites too, I need to give it a try!
    Helpless Whilst Drying

    • oh my gosh, I love your blog name haha! i used to be a nail polish fiend back in the day (i’d probably switch up my mani once or twice a week, now i do it probably every 2 weeks cause i’m lazy). i hope you’ll like that nars concealer – it replaced my hg radiant creamy concealer!

  • Love the sketch – nice idea! All the raves I’ve been hearing about the NARS concealer have been slowly wearing me down, and now I have to try it.

    Pumpkin Lemonade

    • ooooh, please do! a lot of people love it, and i think jackie aina’s comparison made me buy it, haha.

  • I love that you drew out all your favorites Becky!! I need that rose lip balm, I’m obsessed with anything rose scented!

    • rose is such a luxurious scent, I love it so much! thank you hehe <3

  • gosh i love the combo of colors you used! this is so pretty. just send me postcard with your artwork instead, okay? <3 i've been cutting my coffee and switch from the usual to the lower caffeine ones. my gastritis also prevent me to start my day with coffee. so bummed T^T

    • i don’t have gastritis, but i can’t drink coffee on an empty stomach – it makes me feel so nauseous! thank you tannya bae <3333 i'm trying to reduce my color palette so it feels more cohesive~

  • Emily

I bloody LOVE that you sketched your favourites – so unique Becky and you are so incredibly talented! I feel like I’m the only person in the world who hasn’t tried glossier… need to get a move on don’t I!?

I’m with you on shorter post too, I’m trying to do a similar thing myself!

    Musings & More

    • aw, thank you emily! and yes to glossier! it’s one of those brands that i don’t want to like because of how they carry themselves as the pretentious cool girl, but my god i just love so many of their products. it’s weirdly hard to do shorter posts sometimes, almost like a struggle haha.

  • Sam

Ooh, I love glossier’s balms (only have the original, but it has made an impression) but for some reason I just don’t like getting stuff from glossier. Don’t get me wrong, I like their stuff but at the same time it’s everywhere! and so overhyped! lol, I gotchu on the faux wood though. My old place used to have flooring exactly like that, and at first I was really excited because I thought it’d be a great background for pics, and then… it definitely was not, haha.

    Sam / My Beauty Cloud

    • haha, i totally get what you mean with glossier! they’re like that pretentious “i’m cool without trying but also i’m trying really hard” kind of deal, and i kinda wish i don’t like them as much as i do either :p i might just be a basic blogger bitch and get some marble contact paper to put over a foam board, lol.

  • Eee I love your illustrations! I totally got the Kiehl’s calendula mask after reading your posts on it, I’m just trying really hard to finish some of my other masks first before I open that one up! Also, the Glossier Balm Dotcom is so appropriately named – I have the birthday cake one and love it to bits!

    Jenny | Geeky Posh

    • woah, you have a lot more responsibility than i do – i often finish products maybe 80-90% of the way, and my excitement for the next new product is so high that i end up opening the new thing and forgetting about the old. birthday cake is so good, i love that it smells like vanilla cake!

  • I looooove your illustration! That’s such a cute idea, and it looks awesome too! And even just for you it’ll be a really nice way to look back on what you were loving in a few years time. I really want to try the Body Hero line but I’m just not sure I’m going to like the scent all that much? The idea of both products sounds great to me, but I’d hate to spend like $50+ on them and not like how they smell, haha.

    • the oil wash smells great, but after I come out I smell like a swimming pool LOL one other review said they thought it smelled like sunscreen. Body hero doesnt really lather up though, but it does make me feel clean!

Thank you hehe <3 I usually illustrate people, but I'm trying more to do other "real life" things as well!
